Portrait of an Artist: Rieko Fujinami Quote

"The “Id” series is a group of imaginary faces, using drawing on acrylic mirror, which departs from the realistic expression of my previous work.  I‘m working to explore the deeper unconscious areas of my imagination by moving my painting action to a place between the intentional and the accidental; to focus on the excitement of discovery rather than the perfection of details.
The particle flow on mirrored surface creates a space of no distance, no direction, just a floating in unconsciousness.  The mirror space contains a subtle connection to the world outside its surface, and becomes an ambiguous space.  The faces I paint come from unrecognized memory. "- Rieko Fujinami

I could work Fujinami's idea of blurring the line between perfect realism and the excitement of creating into my self portrait. Freeing up myself and letting my art flow rather than forcing it to be perfectly realistic.

"Drawings have always been associated with magic ever since humans first depicted the animals on which their survival depended. Pablo Picasso could have been talking about drawing  specifically when he described art as a 'form of magic, designed as a mediator betwen this strange, hostile world and us, a way of seizing the power by giving for to our terrors as well as our desires....' "  I chose this quote because it fairly accuratly describes the idea of Grumpy Cat becoming a warrior (of Skyrim). He is already so angry and pictured as a cat that feels nothing, so giving him a sword would be both hilarious and terrifying.
